Data analytics and informatics are the backbone of everything we do at Vizient. Our pharmacy analytics team continually pushes the envelope to provide our members meaningful and actionable data and insights to support their efforts to drive cost-effective care and improve clinical outcomes.

Visiting PGY2 residents (the ‘guest resident’) completing this elective learning experience have the opportunity to gain a broader understanding of Vizient and how Vizient impacts members across the country. The elective experience is focused on analytics, informatics and supply chain leadership, and is provided over a typical timeframe of 3 to 4 weeks. Throughout the experience, the guest resident will interact with Vizient senior leadership and become a valued member of the Vizient Pharmacy Solutions team.

Goals of the experience

This approximately four-week rotation will give the resident the opportunity to:

  • Gain a broader understanding of Vizient
  • Understand how Vizient impacts members nationally
  • Interact with Vizient senior leadership
  • Become a valued member of the Vizient Pharmacy Solutions team

Feedback and evaluations will be entered into the resident’s home program PharmAcademic™ and/or any method preferred by the home program.

Live and virtual experiences

Due to local and institution specific restrictions, as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we are continuing to provide this experience virtually. When the timing is right, the option to complete the experience in our live office environment at our Irving, Texas headquarters may be offered.

Housing (if applicable)

  • Room and board are the responsibility of the resident and/or  home residency program
  • Vizient’s Pharmacy Solutions team will assist with locating housing options around our office and we strongly encourage arrangements be determined by residents  as early as possible


  • Inbound/outbound and daily commute – resident’s responsibility
  • Any experience related travel – covered by Vizient

Meet our preceptors and program leadership

Bryan, residency program director, is an informatics-trained pharmacist who oversees the pharmacy analytics team and supervises all student training experiences. Before joining Vizient as our first PGY2 pharmacy informatics resident, he completed a nontraditional PGY1 pharmacy residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, and has also held various leadership roles within the field of pharmacy informatics. Additionally, he has continued to advocate for the advancement of pharmacy practice through ASHP and local organizations. He received his doctorate in pharmacy (PharmD) degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.

Amanda, residency program coordinator, currently oversees Pharmacy Price Verification and the Pediatric Drug Shortages Project —a year-long collaborative project between Vizient and the Children's Hospital Association (CHA), dedicated to investigating the impact of drug shortages on pediatric hospitals. After completing a PGY1 pharmacy residency at Presbyterian Healthcare Services in Albuquerque, NM, Amanda co-founded an Emergency Medicine Pharmacist (EMP) program for Texas Health HEB Hospital in Bedford, TX, where she served as an EMP until coming to Vizient. Amanda is BCPS certified and received her doctorate in pharmacy (PharmD) from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy.

Carina, residency program coordinator, specializes in oncology and is responsible for creating and maintaining resources for the Vizient membership related to hematology/oncology and high-cost drugs. Carina has longstanding experience in hematology/oncology in the acute care hospital setting as well as in outpatient chemotherapy infusion centers mostly at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Throughout her career she has continued to expand her role from clinical pharmacist to clinical coordinator and co-director of a hematology/oncology specialty residency. Carina holds a doctorate in pharmacy (PharmD) from Roseman University School of Pharmacy and is a board-certified oncology pharmacist.

Dan oversees pharmacy contract analytics, a dedicated pharmacy field team, contracting and clinical solutions while setting the strategic direction to ensure that members maximize the value they can obtain from the industry’s leading GPO pharmacy program. Dan began his pharmacy career as a client account executive managing formularies and clinical analytics for large managed care plans. Dan has a diverse background in the pharmaceutical industry with experience in retail, hospital, specialty, pharmacy benefits management, supply chain management and mail order. One concept has rung true throughout Dan’s career: understanding and being able to manipulate “big data” is the key to building calculated savings opportunities in a health care industry that is subject to consistently increasing expenses. Dan is a native of St. Louis, Missouri and earned his doctorate in pharmacy (PharmD) from St. Louis College of Pharmacy in St. Louis, Missouri.

Arati works closely with stakeholders to identify and implement opportunities by benchmarking of utilization and outcomes with the goal of reducing variations in care. Arati began at Vizient as a clinical informaticist, in which role she worked with organizations to identify potential areas of opportunity to improve utilization and outcomes. Arati has also served as clinical coordinator of drug policy and clinical resource management. Arati holds a bachelor's degree in information systems from DePaul University and a doctorate in pharmacy (PharmD) from Midwestern University. She completed a PGY1 pharmacy practice residency at Rush University Medical Center in 2012.

Azra is responsible for three main areas of the Vizient Pharmacy Program: brand/specialty contracting, network contracting, and fee-for-service supplier programs. Azra collected more than 15 years of health care experience in retail, hospital, academic and specialty settings before entering the sourcing field in 2005. Since 2012, she has worked in the specialty pharmacy industry and also with private equity groups to support both operations and value-based investment opportunities. She holds a doctorate in pharmacy (PharmD) from Midwestern University and master’s degree in business administration from the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management.

Ginger has provided her client base with comprehensive clinical and financial stewardship opportunities that deliver sustainable value. She brings a depth of senior management experience in standardizing formularies, services and processes across organizations. Ginger’s skill set includes experience in strategic sourcing; 340B; system organization leadership; technology implementation; computerized physician order entry; standardization of services between facilities, including sourcing and formulary management; interim leadership; retail and specialty pharmacy; development of residency programs; and development, implementation and expansion of new and existing pharmacy services. She received her doctorate in pharmacy (PharmD) from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and her master’s in business administration (MBA) with a specialty in health care administration at the New England College, and completed a pharmacy practice residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Gretchen provides support and direction to the Vizient Pharmacy Advisory Services team and brings more than 20 years of experience in healthcare. Prior to joining Vizient, Gretchen served as a Director of Clinical Pharmacy, Residency Program Director and Pediatric Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at a large tertiary care academic medical center in Pennsylvania as well as a Pharmacotherapy Specialist for a clinical drug information provider.  She also provided consultant pharmacist services to a Wisconsin skilled nursing facility. Gretchen's areas of expertise and professional skills include: clinical pharmacy services; pediatric pharmacotherapy; medication quality and safety; medication cost avoidance strategies; drug shortage and formulary management; medication use policy; clinical research and pharmacy informatics with a focus on pediatrics. Gretchen received her Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, completed an ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Practice Residency at Meriter Hospital in Madison, WI and an ASHP-accredited Pediatric Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. She is Board Certified in Pharmacotherapy.

Jaie manages a team of data scientists, clinical subject experts, and programmers all working together to deliver high quality clinical data insights to hundreds of hospitals across the country. He has always had a thirst to understand the hows and whys of everything as well as a passion for science, healthcare and information technology. Jaie received his doctorate in pharmacy (PharmD) from St. Louis College of Pharmacy and masters in health management and informatics from the University of Missouri.

Jered's team is responsible for several aspects of our industry-leading Pharmacy Program including: Pharmacy Price Verification, Failure to Supply, Rx RFP response and cost studies, Pharmacy Value Tracker, Pharmacy Reports, Vizient Fee-For-Service Pharmacy Analytics, Vizient’s PGY2 pharmacy residency program and Vizient's advanced pharmacy practice experiences. Jered has over 20 years of licensed pharmacist experience with over 11 years among the GPO business. His professional contributions include multiple publications and many years as an active and involved member of several professional pharmacy organizations. Jered received his doctorate in pharmacy (PharmD) from St. Louis College of Pharmacy and a certificate in data and analytics through Cornell University. In his spare time, Jered enjoys eating junior whoppers.

Kevin has worked at for group purchasing organizations in several analytical roles since 2009, and is currently responsible for the Vizient Pharmacy Value Tracker, Drug Budget Forecast and custom reporting. Kevin holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a master's in business administration (MBA) from Webster University.

Richard has 14 years' experience in health care as an emergency medical technician and operating room nurse. His previous roles in the Vizient family of companies have included medical-surgical content specialist and master data management specialist.

Saloni's primary role involves supporting analytics across the Vizient data offerings with a focus on the clinical, operational and ambulatory suite of products. She and her team collaborate closely with the Advisory Services and Performance Improvement groups on engagements to reduce costs and variation in care and improve quality. Saloni received her doctorate in pharmacy (PharmD) and master's of public administration (MPA) degrees from Drake University and began her career at Vizient as a fellow in 2008.

Sara is a pharmacist with the Clinical Data Applications and Insights team who develops clinical analytics and insights for internal Vizient teams and member hospitals. Before joining Vizient, she worked as a clinical pharmacy specialist in critical care and as a clinical coordinator with experience in drug utilization and formulary management, medication safety and drug shortages. Sara received her Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy, and completed PGY1 pharmacy practice and PGY2 critical care specialty residency training at the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy. She maintains board certification in pharmacotherapy and critical care pharmacy.

Shannon is a physician informaticist at Vizient, where he leads work on data warehousing, interoperability and informatics. Prior to Vizient, he was Chief Analytics Officer for both an academic medical center and an early stage healthcare IT company. Shannon has served on multiple advisory boards related to quality measurement and healthcare IT, including chair roles for multiple technical expert panels. He received his doctorate in medicine (MD) from Rush Medical College, completed an internal medicine internship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, was a Robert Woods Johnson Fellow in public health informatics and received his doctorate in philosophy (PhD) in biomedical informatics from the University of Utah.

Stacy is responsible for the oversight and development of clinical resources and communications for the Vizient pharmacy membership. Stacy has more than a decade of experience as a drug information specialist in group purchasing organizations. She also has drug information experience in the academic, industry and acute care settings. She holds a doctorate in pharmacy (PharmD) from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and completed a specialized drug information residency at Purdue University/Eli Lilly/IU Health. She is a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist.

    Alex is excited to return to Vizient as a PGY-2 Pharmacy Informatics and Supply Chain Leadership resident after previously completing a rotation at the company as a pharmacy student. Alex is from Dallas, TX and completed his Doctorate in Pharmacy at Texas Tech University of Health Sciences Center. Afterwards, he went on to complete a PGY-1 at Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center in Fort Worth, TX. In his free time, Alex enjoys working out, playing basketball, and going out on the lake with his friends and family.
  • Jerry Vettemthadathil, PharmD, MBA, MSHS (current)
    Jerry is excited to return to Vizient as a PGY-2 Pharmacy Informatics and Supply Chain resident after previously getting a glimpse into the company as a student on rotation. He is from Houston, TX and completed his Doctorate in Pharmacy at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Afterwards, he finished a PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency at BSA Health System in Amarillo, Texas. Jerry enjoys reading, playing games, and fishing during his free time.
  • Larry Huang, PharmD (2019-2020)
    Manager, Pharmacy Analytics Larry is from Austin, TX and completed his Doctorate in Pharmacy at the University of Texas at Austin. Afterwards, he finished a PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency at Indiana University Health and a PGY2 Pharmacy Informatics Residency at Vizient. He stayed with the Vizient Pharmacy Analytics and Informatics team after completion. Currently, he coordinates the Pharmacy Price Verification program, assists in various analytics initiatives, and helps precept pharmacy students. In his free time, Larry enjoys working out at the gym, cooking, and trying new coffee shops.
  • Jade Vitug, PharmD (2018-2019 )
    After completing the PGY2 Pharmacy Informatics Residency at Vizient, Jade stayed on with the company as a Senior Portfolio Executive. In her current role, Jade manages national contracts for branded pharmaceutical products. She received her doctorate in pharmacy (PharmD) from the University of California, San Francisco and completed a PGY1 pharmacy residency at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose, California. Jade is originally from the tropical island of Guam.
  • Cassandra Miller, PharmD (2017-2018)
    Cassandra currently works at Banner Health as a medication use practice specialist. After completing the PGY2 Pharmacy Informatics Residency at Vizient, she worked as a system clinical pharmacist focusing on clinical benchmarking and utilization management initiatives for the UNC Health Care System in North Carolina. Her past training experience focused on population health in a managed Medicaid and Medicare patient population. Cassandra received doctorate in pharmacy and master's of science in health informatics from the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio.
