Vizient shares comments with CMS on the FY 2027 IPPS Proposed Rule

Company

IRVING, Texas, June 9, 2026Vizient® today submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) Proposed Rule. Vizient's comments address several key areas, including ongoing concerns about the adequacy of the proposed payment update and support for a voluntary, rather than mandatory, Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement Expanded (CJR-X) Model, among other recommendations.

In our comments, Vizient emphasized that the proposed market basket update does not adequately reflect the increasing costs hospitals continue to face. Vizient also urged CMS to provide greater transparency regarding the assumptions used to calculate the market basket and productivity adjustment.

"While we appreciate CMS's efforts to update hospital payments for FY 2027, the proposed payment update falls short of reflecting the rising costs hospitals face in delivering care," said Shoshana Krilow, senior vice president of public policy and government relations for Vizient. "As providers continue to face significant financial pressures, adequate Medicare reimbursement is essential to preserving access to care and supporting the communities hospitals serve."

Vizient also expressed concerns regarding CMS's proposal to implement the new CJR-X Model as a mandatory, nationwide payment model with no specific end date. Consistent with prior recommendations, Vizient urged CMS to make participation in the model voluntary, allowing providers to determine whether participation aligns with their organizational readiness, patient populations, and community needs.

In addition to these recommendations, Vizient encouraged CMS to adopt policies that reduce hospital burden, including eliminating duplicative sepsis-related quality measures and ensuring proposed measures undergo thorough vetting and testing before mandating reporting.
