Supply Chain Leadership Series

As health care costs reach a new high, hospitals are resorting to innovative ways to reduce costs and increase efficiency. In 2017, at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, the surgery department embarked on an initiative to decrease costs in the operating room by analyzing and optimizing surgeons' preference cards and pick lists. By accurately maintaining preference cards, their supply chain professionals ensure that everything is ready during the time of surgery and there is less unpredictability and delays. To accomplish this, they consider their surgeons and nurses as critical in making cost-conscious decisions towards supply and instrument preference and usage in the operating room.
