Mike Butler is president of operations and services for Providence Health & Services, the third largest not-for-profit health care organization in the nation. He is responsible for all clinical and administrative operations and services across the five-state health system. Butler has served Providence for 16 years, most recently as the system’s group president and prior to that, as the executive vice president and chief operating officer. He was also the chief financial officer.

He has more than 25 years of experience in health care financial and operations management with a successful track record in leading growth initiatives, implementing operational improvement efforts, improving credit ratings and consolidating administrative services.

Prior to joining Providence in 1998, Butler was the chief operating and financial officer of the Franciscan Health System in Tacoma, Wash., and Catholic Health Initiatives in Englewood, Colo. Having held numerous leadership roles in system finance and operations, Butler has served in his current role since 2013.

Butler earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from California State University, Fullerton and is a member of the Health Management Academy.
