Celebrating Asian, Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Month

Asian, Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month recognizes the generations of AANHPI individuals who have enriched and continue to contribute to the history, culture and achievements of the U.S.

Monica DavyWe’ve seen the profound impact the pandemic has had across many cultures and communities,” said Monica Davy, SVP, Chief Culture, Diversity and Inclusion Officer. “As an organization, we’re focused on how we can uplift our own colleagues and marginalized communities that have experienced a heightened feeling of “otherness” in recent years.”

During the past few years, for example, the U.S. has seen a rise in xenophobia and violent crimes against Asians, which is unacceptable. While Anti-Asian rhetoric and violence isn't new and has played out through history, we must do better and take a stand as violence continues in many communities. From attacks against Asian elders and vandalized business amid the pandemic, we must take a stand against the violence that is directed toward the Asian community and women.

Bharat Sundaram“Vizient is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion, said Bharat Sundaram, President and COO. “We stand against violence, hatred and bigotry by supporting our Asian, Asian American, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islander colleagues and promoting racial equality in our communities.”

Together, we continue to take a stand against misogyny, racism and social injustice. Our company proactively partners with trusted on-the-ground organizations to provide marginalized populations with the resources they need.

Supporting Afghanistan refugees

During Fall 2021, our company saw that the situation in Afghanistan remained highly uncertain and was changing rapidly. That’s why we donated to the following accredited relief organizations nationwide to help the people in Afghanistan.

We dispersed a $20,000 contribution among six nonprofits to support Afghanistan refugees resettling in the U.S.

Many of our employees also volunteer at the following organizations in support of AANHPI communities.

  • Asian Americans Advancing Justice (AAAJ) – Atlanta. AAAJ works to advance the civil and human rights for Asian Americans and to build and promote a fair and equitable society for all.
  • Heart House Dallas (HHD) – Dallas. HHD uses education as a catalyst to combat poverty and promote equity for the most vulnerable in our city: refugee children.
  • Mosaic Family Services (MFS) – Dallas. MFS is a safe haven for survivors of human rights abuses, including human trafficking and domestic violence. Their programs work to support, educate and empower multicultural individuals and families of North Texas.

Supporting Supplier Diversity

Encouraging the growth and development of diverse businesses promotes economic sustainability in all our communities. To this end, Vizient supports programs that help maximize opportunity, cultivate collaboration and offer mentoring and enrichment for diverse suppliers and small businesses.

Our Supplier Diversity Program supports the development of minority-, woman-, disability-, LGBT- and veteran-owned business enterprises that meet high-quality standards. We also strive to work with suppliers who proactively seek strategic partnerships with diverse companies. Learn more.

Advancing Health Equity

Advancing health equity is both a moral and business imperative for health systems. The Vizient Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) Benchmarking Study, which surveyed 76 health systems representing 33 states, revealed that health care organizations are working quickly to define their scope of ambition to address SDOH and improve health equity for the communities they serve.

It’s all about empowering full community health potential, where no one is disadvantaged due to circumstance. We’re dedicated to equipping members with the data, metrics and resources they need to make empowered decisions to inform this very important work. Learn more.

"I am proud to be at an organization that acknowledges my Asian American identity and supports bringing your whole self to work! Our members serve diverse populations and it is rewarding to work with a diverse and inclusive team at Vizient."

Mittal Sutaria, SVP, Contract and Program Services, Pharmacy

"To me, it’s important to carry on the Vietnamese traditions that were passed down to me: speak the language, understand the culture and continue to spread my culture and heritage for years to come. I think it’s outstanding for Vizient to recognize AANHPI Heritage Month – creating awareness around the AANHPI community within our organization while also honoring the historical and current day achievements that strengthen us as a nation."
